Trombone

Andrej Karba, born in 1983 in Maribor, started trombone lessons at the Slavko Osterc Music School in Ljutomer with his father and trombone teacher Ignac Karba. He continued his studies at the Music Gymnasium in Maribor with Professor Mihael Švagan and later abroad. In 2007 he graduated with honours from the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg im Breisgau in Germany with renowned professor and soloist Branimir Slokar. A year later (2008) he successfully passed a demanding entrance exam for postgraduate studies at the highest level in classical music (Soloklasse - Master of Arts in Specialized Music Performance) at Hochschule der Künste Bern Switzerland. In 2010 he successfully completed his studies with the title "Master of Arts", also with Professor Branimir Slokar. During his studies, he was a recipient of several scholarships from the Ministry of Culture and from organisations Hirschmann Stiftung, which awards scholarships to talented students in Switzerland. During his studies, he has received several plaques and prizes at national and international competitions, both as a soloist and in chamber ensembles: the TEMSIG, the Internationaler Blechbläserwettbewerb Passau, the Internationaler Solistenwettbewerb-INTERMUSICA and others. He has also played and participated in a wide variety of chamber groups and orchestras: (œnm - österreichisches ensemble für neue musik , Camerata Salzburg, Theater Freiburg, SNG Maribor, Bienne Symphony Orchestra, RTV Slovenia Symphony Orchestra...). As a soloist he performed with the University of Music and Arts Wind Orchestra Graz (Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Graz), with symphonic wind orchestra Intermusica from Bierkfeld (Austria), with the Biel Symphony Orchestra from Switzerland (Bienne Symphony Orchestra), with the Thun Symphony Orchestra (Switzerland)... 

He is also an adjudicator at national and international music competitions. He has been actively involved in teaching since 2010 and his students achieve top results at national and international level. He was first a trombone teacher at the Slavko Osterc Music School in Ljutomer and the Anton Martin Slomšek Music and Ballet School in Maribor, and since 2013 he has been a professor at the Ljubljana Conservatory of Music and Ballet.
