Prof. mag. Matjaž Drevenšek, full professor and vice-dean for artistic activities at the Academy of Music of the University of Ljubljana, collaborates with eminent musicians and pedagogues. As a member of the Zagreb Saxophone Quartet, Saxofakind Septet, SOS Saxophone Orchestra, in duos with pianist Z. Peter and percussionist A. L. Barber, in trio with harpsichordist M. Lazar and L. Juhart, and as a soloist of the ensembles Percussion Plus and Studio for Percussion, he has given concerts in Europe, South America, Great Britain and the USA, Russia, Hong Kong and on many domestic stages.  

Solo performances with the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra, Slovenian Philharmonic Chamber String Orchestra, Camerata Labacensis, Police Orchestra, Slovenian Armed Forces Orchestra, Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra, HRT Symphony Orchestra and Big Band, Zagreb Soloists, Croatian Armed Forces Symphony Wind Orchestra, Hong Kong Festival Wind Orchestra and Royal Northern College Of Music Wind Orchestra. He is a founding member of the Chamber Orchestra of Soloists of the Slovene Composers' Society (KOS) and principal saxophonist of the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra. 

He has christened works by composers such as M. Bernal, B. Bjelinski, D. Božič, D. Detoni, S. Glojnarić, J. and R. Golob, J. Gregorc, N. Hall, S. Horvat, J. Kalčič, I. Krivokapič, M. Lazar, B. Lazarin, W. Liebhart, P. Longo, J. Matičič, P. Merkù, V. Nježić, N. Njirić, B. Papandopulo, I. Petrić, M. Prohaska, M. Ptaszyńska, R. Radica, P. Ramovš, M. Ruždjak, M. Strmčnik, P. Šavli, P. Šivic, I. Štuhec, M. Tarbuk, T. Uhlik, etc. 

He has participated in 20 discographic releases, the most important being Hrvatska glazba za saksofone (Orfej HRT), Z quartet, Kaskade (Croatia Records), Tsunagari (Liscio Recordings), Ruben Radica: Izbor iz opusa (Cantus, HDS, HRT), Hrvatski suvremeni sladatelji - Srđan Dedić (Cantus, HDS, HRT), sax+ - ZKS & Itamar Golan - Quintets (Aquarius) - all with Zagreb Saxophone Quartet (won 8 Croatian Porin discography awards) and Duo - Matjaž Drevenšek - alto saxophone, Zoltan Peter - piano (ZKP RTV Slovenia). 

He is the artistic director of the International Saxophone Meetings and the International Saxophone Competition in Nova Gorica. He participates in juries at national and international competitions for young musicians.  

He has received several awards for artistic and pedagogical achievements (the Fran Gerbič Award for Lifetime Achievement and Outstanding Achievements in the Field of Pedagogy and Organisation in the Promotion of Music Education, the Škerjanč Award, the Ljubljana-Centre Municipality Plaque, the Milko Trnin Award, the Croatian Music Institute Award, the Nada Popović-Bukovinac Fonda Award, the Vatroslav Lisinski Award, etc.).
