Mihael Mitev was born in Ljubljana in 1995. After graduating from the Conservatory of Music and Ballet, he enrolled at the Academy of Music in Ljubljana, where he graduated with honours under the tutelage of his father and professor Zoran Mitev. He also studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna with Professor Richard Galler as part of the ERASMUS+ student exchange programme. He continued his bassoon studies in Switzerland at the Züricher Höchschule der Künste with Professor Giorgio Mandolesi, where he obtained his Master's degree in June 2018. He is currently working as a bassoon soloist in the orchestra of the Slovene National Theatre in Maribor.
He performs in Slovenia and abroad as a soloist and orchestral musician, and his chamber music gives him a special impetus. He performs at festivals such as the Ljubljana Festival, concerts as part of the Ljubljana and Slovenian Music Youth, the Zermatt Festival, the Grafenegg Festival, etc.
Since primary school he has been participating in national TEMSIG competitions and international competitions such as the "Davorin Jenko" competition in Belgrade and the "Stevan Mokranjac" competition in Požaravac, achieving top results. He qualified for the second stage of the ARD International Competition in Munich 2019. In the Slovenian national competition TEMSIG, he won a special award for the best performance of a Slovenian work in 2015 with a chamber group and in 2016 as a soloist.
As an orchestral musician, he has been playing as a guest in the Frankfurt Opera Orchestra (Frankfurter Opern- und Museumsorchester) for the past year, and has also participated in orchestras such as the Slovenian Philharmonic, Orchestre de Paris, Musikkolegium Winterthur, Kammerorchester Basel, the RTV Slovenia Symphony Orchestra, etc.In addition, he has been a member of the RTV Slovenia Symphony Orchestra. Between 2015 and 2019 he was a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO) and the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra (GMJO). He has performed with them at various festivals and concert halls in Europe and around the world with conductors such as Matthias Pintscher, Daniel Harding, Johanatan Nott, Bernhard Haitink, etc. In 2016, after an audition, he was selected for the Chamber Orchestra of Europe's Academy Programme within the EUYO.
In May 2017, he performed Heitor Villa Lobos' Ciranda das sete notas as soloist with the Young Ljubljana Soloists as part of the Ljubljana Academy of Music's concert season.
He has studied with teachers such as Andrea Zucco, Bence Boganyi, Robert Gillinger, Gustavo Nunez, Stefano Canuti, Pedro Silva, etc.
