Sarah Akif
Horn

Sarah Akif completed her horn studies with honours in 2017 under the tutelage of Prof. Boštjan Lipovský at the Academy of Music in Ljubljana. She has received additional training from internationally renowned horn players, including Johannes Hinterholzer, Radovan Vlatković, Radek Baborak, Saar Berger, Michael Holtzl, Christian Lampert, Luiz Garcia, Sarah Willis, Dale Clevenger, Denise Tryon, Frank Lloyd and Christian-Friedrich Dallmann. Akif has won numerous awards at international and national competitions. In the academic year 2014/2015 she studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Frankfurt am Main with Prof. Esi Tapani through Erasmus + one year of advanced studies. During her studies she was a regular member of the Brass Band Slovenia and the German contemporary music ensemble Neophon. She has given successful solo recitals at the Ljubljana Academy of Music and the Ljubljana Music Youth. As a member of the wind quintet OneManBand, she recorded Žiga Stanič's Quintet No 3, which was released on the author's CD Žiga Stanič: Variatio delectat. Akif has played in international youth orchestras: the European Music Campus Orchestra, Ljubljana International Orchestra (Branimir Slokar Academy), Orchester Norden, Stanford University Wind Band and the European workshop for contemporary music. As well as being a regular chamber musician, Akif has also appeared as a substitute in other professional orchestras. In the 2017/2018 season, she performed Richard Strauss' Concerto No 1 for Horn and Orchestra as soloist with the Orchestra of the SNG Maribor. Since the 2018/2019 season she has been regularly employed as a horn player with the Orchestra of the Slovene National Theatre Maribor.
