Urban Turjak Pozavna

Urban Turjak, born in 1987 in Maribor, where he completed his primary school education and graduated from the music high school of the Maribor Conservatory of Music. Since 1994, he was introduced to music in Maribor by professors Kolbl, Vauh, and Švagan. Until 2005, he achieved four gold medals and first prizes in TEMSIG competitions, as well as awards for the best performance of the compulsory piece. He continuously improved himself at summer schools and specialist courses (Slokar, Allessi, Bonvin, Bylund, Svanberg). In 2010, he completed his studies in trombone under Professor Branimir Slokar at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg in Germany, and then undertook a one-year advanced study programme, which was focused on deepening his knowledge and skills for orchestral and chamber music performance. He further refined his skills at the Universität der Künste Berlin with Professors Klein, Schulz, and Vogt. In Berlin, he was a permanent external member of the Deutsche Sinfonie Orchester Berlin and the Komische Oper Berlin. He also collaborated with various other orchestras and chamber ensembles in Freiburg, Südwestdeutsche Philharmonie Konstanz, Baden-Baden Philharmonie, Würzburg Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Fuortissimo Quartet. In the 2012/13 and 2013/14 seasons, he worked as a solo trombonist in the Zagreb Symphony Orchestra and from 2013 in the international No Borders Orchestra, with which they recorded a CD for Universal Deutsche Grammophon.

Since October 2013 he has been a member of the RTV Slovenia Symphony Orchestra.
