Violinist Matjaž Porovne graduated with honors from the Academy of Music in Ljubljana in 2006 in the class of Prof. Primož Novšak. He further advanced his studies at the Music Academy in Zagreb with Prof. Taras Pečeni and at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz with Prof. Eszter Haffner, where he also obtained his Master's degree in 2013.

He has studied with renowned teachers Gerhard Schulz, Rudolf Gähler, Jerrold Rubenstein, Igor Ozim, Tomaž Lorenz, Hagai Shaham, Eszter Hafner, Ebenhard Felz, as well as with members of the Artemis String Quartet, the Vogler String Quartet and the Apollon Musagete String Quartet.

For his outstanding achievements he received the Prešeren Student Award. He has successfully auditioned for youth orchestras; the European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO), and the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester (GMJO), with which he has performed at major music festivals; the BBC Proms, the Luzern Musik Festival, etc.

His music has been supported by Fundacia Live Music Now in Vienna, PE-Förderkreis in Mannheim, and Villa Musice Rheinland-Pfalz in Mainz. Within the latter he has performed in Germany in various chamber ensembles with renowned musicians (David Geringas, Tim Vogler, Wen-Sinn Yang...).

He is a member of successful chamber ensembles: the Slovenian Philharmonic Chamber String Orchestra, Ensemble Dissonance and the Dissonance String Quartet, LIBERtria, Quatroportango, Noordung Piano Trio...

In 2011-2012 he was a member of the Orchestra of the Slovene National Theatre Opera and Ballet Ljubljana. Since 2012 he has been an employee of the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra.
