Closing of the Winter Festival with the Slovenian Youth Orchestra

For music enthusiasts, the Winter Festival over the past few days has been packed with concerts by top musicians. The festival will conclude today at the Slovenian Philharmonic at 19.30 with a concert by the Slovenian Youth Orchestra under the baton of conductor and artistic director Živa Ploj Peršuh. Violin soloist Rok Zaletel Černoš will also perform.

The evening will open with Johannes Brahms' Variations on a Theme by Haydn, followed by the Violin Concerto No.1 by Polish composer Henryk Wieniawski. The performance will be rounded off by Beethoven's Symphony No. 3, better known as Eroica, according to the Ljubljana Festival.

Conductor, founder and artistic director of the Ploj Peršuh Orchestra, she works with a wide symphonic and operatic repertoire. In Slovenia, she founded the Festine Symphony and Chamber Orchestra, which has brought professional musicians together with students and given young people the opportunity to experience professional musical life.

In addition to the orchestra, she is also the founder of Music for the Future, a humanitarian arts project working to integrate young Ukrainian musicians affected by the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.

Rok Zaletel Černoš, who last year was the first Slovenian violinist to participate in the P. I. Tchaikovsky International Violin Competition in Moscow, will join the musicians as soloist. He graduated from the Academy of Music in Ljubljana in the class of Vasili Meljnikov and already during his studies received, among many other awards, the student Prešeren Prize. As a scholarship holder of the Municipality of Ljubljana, he continues his studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna.

In June 2022, the Slovenian Youth Orchestra was accepted as a full member of the European Federation of National Youth Orchestras EFNYO.

On 18 February, the Festival opened with the Taiwanese pianist Kai-Min Chang, winner of the first International Piano Competition organised by the Ljubljana Festival. Other performers included conductor Roberto Abbado, Spanish singer Lidia Rodriguez Gonzalez, pianist Olga Kern and violinist Maksim Vengerov, who were visiting Slovenia for the first time.
