Young musical talents from Ukraine and young musicians from the Slovenian Youth Orchestra, united in the Music for the future orchestra, performed at Cankarjev dom on 11 May 2022.

The main guest of the concert was violinist Gidon Kremer, one of the most admired musicians in the world. For more than five decades, he has gifted the music-loving community with incredible artistic achievements. He has always been connected to Ukrainian culture in many ways: through numerous collaborations, through playing and promoting the works of Ukrainian composers, and last but not least, he has always supported young musicians and continues to support our project.

Gidon Kremer introduced the concert with two meaningful works, I. Loboda: Requiem for solo violin. A Requiem for violin solo. The orchestra then performed the composition Religioso by the Slovenian composer Slavko Osterc, with a solo part performed by the young Ukrainian violinist Sofiia Kysliak. With Gidon Kremer, they then played Robert Schumann's extremely demanding Violin Concerto (originally for cello) in A minor, Op. 129. In the second part of the concert, the orchestra celebrated life, nature and humanism with Antonin Dvořák's bright and stimulating Symphony No. 8 in G major, Op. 88, B 163.

Before, during and after the event, in cooperation with UNICEF Slovenia, we collected donations to help the participating musicians and their families from Ukraine and to support UNICEF's programmes for children and families in Ukraine.
