MUSIC FOR THE FUTURE
Concert to help Ukraine
Charity concert of young musicians from Ukraine and Slovenia at Cankarjev dom and world-famous violinist Gidon Kremer to help children and families from Ukraine
Children and young people from Ukraine, who have sought safe shelter from the war in Slovenia, will be raising funds to help people from Ukraine in the way that is closest to their hearts: through music, with a concert at the Cankarjev dom in Ljubljana on May 9. In the Musič for the future project, talented young musicians from Ukraine are teaming up with young musicians from Slovenia under the auspices of the Slovenian Youth Orchestra under the direction of Živa Ploj Peršuh. On this occasion, they joined forces with UNICEF Slovenia. One bag, one phone and their most precious possession - the instrument that holds all their lives and dreams. With these possessions, the talented young musicians set out from Ukraine and found a safe haven in Slovenia. The experience of being a child on the run can dehumanise many, so the children (the youngest is seven years old) and young people from Ukraine are finding support and strength in music and continuing their mission. In doing so, they seek to develop their talents, overcome the trauma of war and help to create a better future for themselves and others. Talented musicians from Ukraine will perform together with young musicians from Slovenia under the auspices of the Slovenian Youth Orchestra and united in the Musič for the future orchestra at Cankarjev dom. Before, during and after the event, in cooperation with UNICEF Slovenia, they will be collecting donations to help the participating musicians and their families from Ukraine, as well as for UNICEF's support programmes for children and families from Ukraine. The Musič for the future Symphony Orchestra will perform with world-renowned soloist, violinist Gidon Kremer. The conductor will be Ziva Ploj Peršuh. The programme will include Dvorak: Symphony No.8 in G major, Schumann: Violin Concerto in A minor (originally for cello); Skoryk: Melody and Shkerjants: Solemn Overture.
