Festive Christmas Concert by the Slovenian and British Parliamentary Choirs

Festive Christmas Concert by the Slovenian and British Parliamentary Choir Saturday, 17 December 2022, 19:30 at St Nicholas Cathedral in Ljubljana

You are cordially invited to a festive Christmas concert to mark the 30th anniversary of British-Slovenian friendship, organised by the British-Slovenian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Embassy of the United Kingdom in Slovenia and the Imago Sloveniae Foundation. On this special occasion, the British Parliamentary Choir and the Slovenian Parliamentary Choir Kvorum will perform together for the first time, accompanied by the combined Orchestra of the KGBL and Orchestra Music for the Future.

The UK and Slovenia are among the few countries that can boast their own parliamentary choirs. The choirs bring together MPs and staff from both parliaments, who are united across traditional party lines by their love of choral singing. The British Parliamentary Chorus performs regularly across the UK and abroad. They are regular guests on national radio, have been featured in The Guardian, on the BBC website and in The New Yorker.
The Slovenian Parliamentary Assembly is called the Quorum, which comes from the parliamentary term for the quorum that is a prerequisite for taking decisions. The choir has a varied repertoire, including classical Slovenian choral songs as well as Slovenian songs arranged for the choir and foreign choral literature. The orchestra consists of members of the Symphony Orchestra KGBL and members of the Orchestra Music for the future, an artistic-humanitarian project of the Slovenian Youth Orchestra and partners, enabling young Ukrainian musicians to safely evacuate to Slovenia and integrate into their new environment through music.
Symphony Orchestra KGBL has been running since the Conservatoire's foundation in 1953, introducing students to orchestral playing and literature, while giving the best students the opportunity to perform as soloists. In 2014, conductor and pianist Slaven Kulenović took over the leadership of the orchestra and prepared it for the concert in question.
Free entry.

* During the concert, voluntary charitable donations will be collected for the Slovenian Philanthropy to support Ukrainian refugees in Slovenia.
